The General Director of the Office of Early Awareness and Control of Harmful Factors in the Plant Protection Organization of the country asked farmers to follow the frequency of herbicide use and use herbicides with different effective points every year in order to prevent the occurrence of resistance.
Akbar Ahangaran, Director General of the Office of Early Awareness and Control of Damage Factors in the Plant Protection Organization of Iran, told our reporter: In the current crop year, about 2 million and 200 thousand hectares have been fought with weeds, of which 1 million and 300 thousand hectares are in irrigated wheat fields and the rest are related to dry wheat fields.
She stated that in the current crop year, the level of weed control in wheat fields has been 340 thousand hectares more than in the same period last year, she stated: Last crop year, one million and 860 thousand hectares were fought with weeds in wheat fields by farmers.
She said: The fight against weeds in wheat fields in the northern half of the country, such as East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, as well as Khorasan Razavi and Fars provinces, and in Sardsir provinces, continues for another 20 days.
Ahangaran emphasized timely fight against weeds and asked the farmers to use recommended herbicides based on the condition of dominant weed flora in the fields, and in consultation with plant protection experts.
She pointed to the emergence of resistance in weeds and stated: Successive use of the same type of herbicide by farmers in several years causes resistance in weeds and may not be effective in controlling weeds in the fields in the future due to the development of resistance.
